Message of the Communist Party of USA to the 23rd Congress:
«The CPUSA extends its warmest fraternal greetings and congratulations to that stalwart of the Cypriot people that is AKEL on the occasion of its 23rd Congress.
Throughout its long history of almost 100 years the vanguard of the people of Cyprus that you represent, first as the Communist Party of Cyprus and now as AKEL, never wavered in its struggles against the dual evils of colonialism and anti-communism or in its never-ending fight for the rights and welfare of the masses of the working people of Cyprus of any and all ethnic heritages or religious backgrounds.
Today, as we face the future together, it is of the most vital importance that the CPUSA, AKEL and all progressive people stand in solidarity as we jointly face the challenge of leading the working people of the world along the socialist path and in confronting the immediate danger of right-wing extremism.
Also, at this most critical and dangerous time for a positive resolution of “the Cyprus problem” the CPUSA stands in solidarity with AKEL and the Cypriot people in their continued struggle to end the occupation of their country, to thwart the immediate danger of the colonialization of the occupied city of Famagusta and, going forward, to annul any thought of a “two state” solution. Instead, we, in concert with AKEL, support a bi-zonal, bi-communal, federal solution. A single state with a single sovereignty and international personality
We heartly congratulate cd. Andros Kyprianou on his term of service as leader of AKEL and are ready to stand in solidarity with the new leadership of AKEL who will be elected at the Congress.
