Meeting of the General Secretary of AKEL St. Stefanou with the Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli

The General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou had a meeting with THE Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli today. The meeting was also attended by the Head of AKEL’s Economic Policy Haris Polycarpou.

The meeting discussed the prospects of Cypriot shipping in the light of international developments, as well as the challenges facing the sector due to the imposition of sanctions on Russia.

The General Secretary of AKEL also noted the need to upgrade the country’s maritime infrastructure. He made a special reference to the ports and the need to address the problems that have arisen due to their privatisation and the continuous increases in charges, thus affecting the competitiveness of Cypriot exports.

Finally, AKEL’s long-standing support for Cypriot shipping was expressed and the importance of the sector in the overall development of the Cyprus economy was underlined.
