Meeting between the General Secretary of AKEL and the General Secretary of the Lebanese Communist Party

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lebanese Communist Party, Hanna Gharib, met today with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou.

During the meeting with the General Secretary of the LCP, who is in Cyprus to participate in the deliberations of the 5th Mediterranean Conference of the Left, an exchange of views on the situation in the region and a briefing took place surrounding the situation in the two countries.

The mutual solidarity of the two Parties was reaffirmed and the position for peaceful cooperation between the two peoples was expressed, as well as their concern about the militarisation of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Finally, satisfaction was expressed at the excellent relations between AKEL and the Lebanese Communist Party and the will was expressed for the further deepening of these relations on issues of common interest.

The delegations of the two Parties also included on AKEL’s part Vera Polycarpou, Head of the International Relations and European Policy Sector of the Central Committee of AKEL, Mohamed Shaaban, member of the Central Committee and of the International Relations Bureau of AKEL, and on the part of LCP Marwan Raii, member of the Political Bureau of the Lebanese Communist Party.
