Mass events in memory and honour of Kavazoglu and Mishaoulis

Every year, AKEL and the Peoples Movement of the Left honours heroes and martyrs of Greek-Turkish friendship, Dervis Ali Kavazoglou and Costas Mishiaouli. The two comrades, militants in the common struggle and friends were cowardly murdered on 11th April 1965 by the extreme right-wing Turkish Cypriot terrorist organization TMT.

The sacrifice of Kavazoglou – Mishiaouli became the symbol of the common struggle of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots for the salvation of our common homeland. It has become the symbol of rapprochement of the two communities.

The commemorative events in memory and honour of the heroes and martyrs of our people held every year remind us of our duty to keep struggling against the Turkish occupation. These events emphasize that we must continue the struggle to achieve the end of the occupation and reunification of our country.

AKEL will continue to wage the battle for the liberation of Cyprus from the occupation, the end of the colonisation of the occupied areas and the reunification of our country and people. We will continue to struggle for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as defined by the resolutions of the United Nations, for one state with a single sovereignty, a single citizenship and a single international personality.

The duty of every Cypriot patriot, who commemorates the sacrifice of Kavazoglou and Mishiaouli, is to join this struggle and together, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, fight for the vindication of our Cyprus.

AKEL calls everyone for a mass participation in the events in memory and honour of our heroes and martyrs Kavazoglou and Mishiaouli, which will culminate on Sunday, 6th April 2014 in the village of Dali.

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

Sunday, 6th April 2014

9:45 a.m. Homage and tribute to the memory of Costas Mishiaouli at the St. Constantine and Helen Cemetery in Nicosia.

Laying of wreaths at the grave of Costas Mishaoulis.

10:00 a.m.

A mass youth demonstration will begin from the village of Pera Chorio to the village of Dali.

10:45 a.m.

Mass meeting outside the local club of the Peoples Movement of the Left in Dali.

Address by the President of the Turkish Cypriot Revolutionary Trade Union Federation DEV-IS Mehmet Seyis.

Speech by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou.
