Letter from the General Secretary of AKEL to the Attorney General on the Court ruling on Golden Dawn
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 8th October 2020, Nicosia
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou sent today a letter to the Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Giorgos Savvides regarding the ruling of the Athens Court of Appeal on the Golden Dawn party.
The letter is as follows:
“Yesterday the Three-member Court of Appeal of Athens found Golden Dawn guilty of running a criminal organization. Given the dozens of public statements of the leaderships of the Golden Dawn party and ELAM (Note: Cypriot far-right and ultra-nationalist National Popular Front) about their links, cooperation and interconnections, we wonder whether there are reasons for the Legal Service to investigate anew the possibility of them having committed criminal offenses in Cyprus too.
Besides, this is also provided for in a Resolution approved by the House of Representatives which “calls on the authorities to follow the development of the trial of the Golden Dawn in Greece and to proceed to take at the appropriate time all the actions to verify whether the Golden Dawn criminal offenses have been committed in Cyprus too.
We request that you inform us with respect to the issue raised.”
