Kavazoglou- Misiaoulis symbols of rapprochement and common struggle of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots

AKEL and the People’s Movement of the Left honor for yet another year the Heroes and Martyrs of Greek-Turkish friendship, comrades Dervis Ali Kavazoglou and Kostas Misiaoulis who were cowardly murdered on April 11th, 1965 by the ultra-right Turkish Cypriot terrorist organization TMT.
The sacrifice of Kavazoglou- Misiaoulis symbolizes the rapprochement and common struggle of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots for the salvation of our common homeland.
The meetings in commemoration and memory of the two Heroes and Martyrs of our people remind us of our duty to continue the struggle against the Turkish occupation and for the reunification of our country and people.
AKEL will continue to struggle for a peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN resolutions on Cyprus and the High-Level Agreements of 1977 and ’79, which provide for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality as described by the International Organization. We will continue to struggle for a united state with a single sovereignty, a single citizenship and a single international personality, with the human rights and basic freedoms of the people safeguarded.
Every Cypriot patriot is called upon to rally his/her forces in waging this struggle and together to fight for the vindication of our Cyprus. This is the best memorial for our two compatriots who were victims of intolerance, nationalism and chauvinism.
AKEL calls on the people to take part in the meetings in memory and honor of the Heroes and Martyrs Kavazoglou and Misiaoulis that will culminate on Sunday, April 10th 2016 in the village of Dali.
We draw strength from their sacrifice for the continuation of the anti-occupation struggle.
