Just as the government weren’t telling the truth for years, they also don’t want the truth to be revealed today

AKEL’s steadfast demand is that the Finding of the Committee of Inquiry into the ‘golden’ passports scheme should be made public, as the relevant legislation states too, so we can to judge the Finding’s conclusions, as well as the Committee and its work.
Citizens, on the other hand, are observing the Anastasiades government and ruling DISY party change positions, depending on what suits them.
It is Nikos Anastasiades himself who in November 2011 proposed the mandatory publication of the findings of committees of inquiries. However now, they are scheming to ensure the non-publication of the Finding about the rotten business of the ‘golden’ passports scheme that they themselves set up and operated, repeatedly shaming and discrediting our country internationally.
It is Nikos Anastasiades himself and the ruling DISY party which for years clashed with everyone, claiming indeed that there is nothing wrong with the citizenship program. Former Finance Minister Haris Georgiades was stating that “up till now, due to strict controls, no dubious investors came to Cyprus” (14.02.2019). Interior Minister Nikos Nouris also arrogantly claimed that “there is no evidence” to substantiate anything reprehensible in the program (26.08.2020). But now, the Committee of Inquiry has documented that more than half of the passports granted were issued illegally.
All of Cyprus knows that the DISY Government is desperately doing all it can so that the whole truth about the ‘golden’ passport scandal won’t be revealed because it is the DISY government that has issued more than 6,500 passports, because it is the family businesses of Nikos Anastasiades and law firms linked to current and former Ministers who were at the forefront of the ‘golden’ passports industry, indifferent to the scandalous conflict of interest.
That is precisely why they weren’t telling the truth for so many years.
And that is why they don’t want the truth to be revealed even now.
