The Government must revoke its decision

The government and the leadership of the DISY party are continuing to provoke by acting divisively and arbitrarily by equating the state with their party.

By renaming the international airport of the Republic Cyprus to Glafcos Clerides the founder and leader of the Right wing, in practice what they are primarily seeking is the purification and vindication of the Right wing faction in Cyprus.

Besides, they are acting in a similar way also in their ongoing attempts to vindicate and turn the leader of the fascist and traitorous EOKA B organization of Georgos Grivas into a hero, as well the Commandos who attacked the Presidential Palace on 15th July 1974 with the order to murder and overthrow President Archbishop Makarios through the execution of a coup d’état.

However, what they are actually achieving is to provoke and continuously cultivate an unnecessary and damaging division of the people, at a time when everyone’s attention should be focused on the major challenges Cyprus is facing.

We wonder if the government and ruling forces realize their enormous responsibilities for the climate of division they are deliberately stirring up as a result of their provocative actions. Furthermore, we also pose the following question – do they realize what will happen if every subsequent government will change unilaterally and without consultation the decision to rename the international airport of Cyprus?

We again call on the Government to revoke its decision, respecting the feelings of the overwhelming majority of our people.
