DISY government bears enormous responsibilities for the inaction on the robbery committed by the banks

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 5th November 2015, Nicosia

coins econThe losses sustained by the Bank of Cyprus after the acquisition of the Russian Uniastrum Bank amounted to € 700 million. The sum of more than € 2 billion from the buying of the Greek bonds in the first 6 months when the Greek economy was collapsing, as well as the significant losses from the € 6,5 billion of non-performing loans given to the 20 biggest borrowers of the Bank, must also be added to these losses.

For all these actions and much more, three years after the economic catastrophe caused by the robbery committed by the banks, no one, we stress absolutely no one was summoned for questioning, even by the law enforcement authorities.

Yesterday’s statements by the Attorney General highlight the most serious responsibilities of the Police for the inaction and stagnation observed in the pursuit for the culprits and bringing all those responsible for the robbery committed by the banks and the economic devastation it brought to justice.

It simultaneously highlights both the enormous political responsibilities of the political supervisor of the Police and the entire DISY party Government.

These responsibilities are a continuation and are in addition to the enormous political responsibilities for the concealment and covering up of the robbery by the banks when this was underway and for the lavish protection and support given to the “best bankers” and the “best Governor of the Central Bank in the world” as those who were responsible for the administration and supervision of the banking system were characterized by the leadership of the DISY party.
