Government insults again the democratic resistance against the fascist coup d’ etat

The decision of the government of Anastasiades and the DISY Rally party to hold a funeral with state and military honours, in the presence of the Minister of Interior, for the 12 National Guard Commandos under the pretext of “following orders” sided and fought with the Greek junta and EOKA B for the dissolution of Democracy in 1974, is provocative and condemnable.

At a time when Turkey’s provocations are escalating and unity around goals and collective handling must be the concern of all and especially of the President of the Republic, the government and ruling forces choose to vindicate the coupists and provoke the democratic feelings of the Left, but also of the majority of the Cypriot people.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attempt to equate the democratic resistance with the illegality and the coup d’état. The forging and falsifying of the historical truth is an insult to the memory of all those who fought and sacrificed themselves for Freedom and Democracy.
