Government handling of vaccine issue is deficient

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 15th April 2021, Nicosia

While the Council of Ministers was being vaccinated, for the umpteenth time the government vaccination web portal was blocked before it could even open for the public. It is inconceivable that an entire state cannot ensure the operation of a portal on the critical issue of vaccinations.

It is clear, however, that the government handling of the vaccines issue is deficient in general. How is it possible for other European countries such as Malta and Denmark to be much further ahead in their vaccination program, while Cyprus is moving at an unacceptably slow pace and in an atmosphere of confusion and disorganization?

Vaccinations are the only way to definitely overcome the pandemic, save lives and end the restrictive measures that are draining society. Cyprus with the size its population could and should have progressed much faster in its vaccination program. The government must provide answers about this situation.
