EU directorate’s authoritarian and reactionary character affirmed
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 13th July 2015, Nicosia
The agreement of the Greek government with its lenders will be judged by the Greek parliament and the Greek people. AKEL as it has done all through the previous period will refrain from intervening in the internal affairs of Greece.
However the critical question as to where the European Union and the Euro zone is heading does concern and affect us, as well as the European peoples as a whole, taking into account all that has taken place over the past few months and more specifically over the last two weeks with regards the Greek issue.
In particular, all that dramatically took place on the Greek issue bring back in a particularly severe way basic dilemmas and issues at stake about the present, future and perspective of the European Union.
Will the peoples of Europe continue to tolerate the dogmatic insistence on extreme neoliberal conservatism which is leading to the deprivation and impoverishment of entire peoples or will the peoples force the ruling circles of the Union to a reorientation towards an adept economic policy that will aim at growth and the prosperity of European citizens?
How much longer will the peoples of Europe tolerate the neocolonial type practices, the blatant blackmailing and ultimatums of the Brussels Directorate that have nothing to do with the declared principles of solidarity, mutual respect and democracy?
In the face of the dilemma of a German Europe or a European Germany, to what extent will the complete domination of a German Europe be tolerated?
How will the workers and peoples of Europe reply in the period ahead on the crucial issue at stake between the Europe of monopolies and financial capital on the one hand and the Europe of the peoples and social justice on the other?
A lot can be said about and conclusions drawn from all these developments on the Greek issue and the stance of the Greek people.
Among all these, we point out the undeniable fact that the Greek people through its democratic choices have fittingly highlighted all the previously mentioned issues at stake concerning the European structure. At the same time however the Greek people have also highlighted the detestable nature of the vicious austerity policies, but also the authoritarian and reactionary character of the Brussels directorate and of the multinational monopolies that are behind it.
In every case, AKEL will remain until the end in solidarity with the struggles of the Greek people so that a better tomorrow will come for Greece.
