DISY Party persists in its blind submission to the Memorandum and Troika

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 6th February 2015, Nicosia

disyThe President of the governing DISY Rally party Mr. Averof Neophytou in his intervention yesterday at the Interparliamentary Conference on EU Economic Governance, not only reiterated the well-known positions of his party and of the Anastasiades government, but went a few steps further, taking care to argue why the new Greek government’s basic demands, such as debt relief and an end to the devoid of legitimacy establishment of the Troika, must not be accepted.

Mr. Averof Neophytou has of course every right to express the positions of his party and government. However, we leave it to the people to judge:

– First, the mockery and ridicule shown towards the Greek and Cypriot people by the government and the DISY party, given that just a few 24-hours have passed since their public expression of support to the new Greek government regarding the logical and just demands it has put forth.

– Second, their decision to undermine rather than express their solidarity with the Greek government and the Greek people, indeed at a time when Athens is locked in a tough negotiating marathon with its lenders.

– And third, their persistence in the blind submission to the Troika and the Memorandum, which they evidently continue to consider as their own manifesto, in an effort to continue the vicious redistribution of wealth to the benefit of local and foreign large private interests, at the expense of the people and workers.
