DISY cannot impose on youth to honour the betrayal, fascism, chauvinism and intolerance.

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th November 2015, Nicosia

grivas cprThe leadership of the DISY Rally party with ploys is trying to hide behind the T. Papadopoulos government, since it is unable to defend the criminal activity of Grivas and therefore the decision approved by the DISY party Government for school visits of pupils to the illegal hideout of the leader of the fascist, fanatical and traitorous EOKA B organization.

Apart from that however the governing DISY party is provocatively insisting that our young people must view Grivas and his actions as an example when even Glafcos Clerides called him a murderer.

As far as the appeal it addressed for our schools to be left out of any confrontation between parties, obviously the DISY leadership is implying that we should allow them undisturbed to falsify and distort the historical truth, to glorify and turn Grivas, EOKA B ‘and those who turned their weapons against the Republic and Democracy into heroes and in general to impose, both within and outside the education system, the history of the Right and extreme right with regards the modern history of Cyprus.

What consequently needs to be done is for DISY to abandon petty narrow-minded party considerations, to abandon actions that divide the people and in particular to stop behaving as if the state is its own property. If they want, let they themselves continue to take the members of NEDISY (the Youth Organization of DISY party) to the hideout of Grivas so that they take examples from him, but they cannot impose on the rest of the young people to honor and celebrate the betrayal, fascism, chauvinism and intolerance.
