DISY doesn’t dare look in the mirror

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 19th October 2020, Nicosia

The ruling DISY party, finding itself in unbelievable bewilderment, given that one scandal follows another during the term of its administration, has chosen to attack AKEL and its General Secretary, in a way that provokes a wry smile.

The General Secretary of AKEL, as all the people saw the Al Jazeera video. AKEL, although it was unaware of what was happening at the time they were going on, immediately took the responsibility and called on its MP to resign from his state and party positions.

The sad thing is that ruling DISY party doesn’t dare look in the mirror, doesn’t dare look directly at the responsibilities of President Anastasiades and his Ministers.

The responsibilities of Mr. Anastasiades for the trips to the Seychelles courtesy of his Saudi friend and to whom he subsequently granted passports, as well as to his extended family and harem.

The responsibilities of Mr. Anastasiades for the fact that during his administration something is happening that ruling elites even in the most underdeveloped countries don’t even dare thinking about: that is to say, his family firm sends files with naturalization applications to be approved by the Council of Ministers.

The responsibilities of Mr. Anastasiades and his Government for the naturalization of international fraudsters, such as Joe Taek Lo, the pre-marked naturalization applications indicating that Anastasiades’ Ministers had given instructions for the speeding up of the whole process.

The responsibilities of Mr. Anastasiades and his Government for the fact that already the Commission examining naturalizations, which the Government itself has appointed, concluded that from the 42 applications it has examined 19 of them are problematic.

The responsibilities of Mr. Anastasiades, the Government and DISY for the fact that during their administration Cyprus is being shamed internationally by this case.

Mr. Anastasiades, the Government and DISY are unjustly trying to polarize the climate by attacking AKEL for corruption. Society has learned about the unbelievable feast that was set up with the golden passports scheme because for more than four years AKEL has been insisting on raising the issue in the public debate. We will insist on doing so, without changing a single word of all that we have said. The abscess of corruption must be broken.
