Did the President say anything to the British Prime Minister or did he just listen?

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C Press Office, 14 April 2018, Nicosia

According to what the government spokesman Mr. Prodromou said, the British Prime Minister Mrs. May briefed the President of the Republic Mr. Anastasiades on the military operation carried out in Syria. What the government spokesman didn’t say is what Mr. Anastasiades said – if he said anything at all – to the British Prime Minister.

For the government’s position to apply that Cyprus is not involved in these operations, Mr. Anastasiades should have conveyed to the British Prime Minister that the Cyprus government does not wish the use of the Bases in Cyprus because their use involves Cyprus in the crisis and poses great dangers for our country.

The government is silent and doesn’t reply to the following question: is the use of the British bases in Cyprus for the bombing operations in Syria a problem for the government or not?

Does the government continue to believe that the use of the Bases does not pose dangers to Cyprus and does not involve our country in this situation?

Silence is not a position, but a consent to NATO’s illegal and dangerous actions in Syria.
