Cyprus and energy at the meeting of the Left Group GUE/NGL in Cyprus
It convenes tomorrow in Larnaca with the General Secretary of AKEL as the keynote speaker

The Political Group of the Left in the European Parliament (GUE/NGL), whose Bureau is convening tomorrow in Larnaca, will discuss the Cyprus problem, the energy and Palestinian issue. The proceedings will be addressed by one of the Group’s Vice-Presidents, Portuguese Communist Party PCP Member of the European Parliament Joao Pimenta Lopez, and AKEL MEP’s Giorgos Georgiou and Niyazi Kizilyurek.
In the morning session, the Bureau will focus on the Cyprus problem and energy, with Stefanos Stefanou, the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, as the keynote speaker followed by interventions by Toumazos Tsielepis, Head of the Cyprus Problem Office of the C.C. of AKEL, Dr. Charalambos Ellinas, special expert on energy and hydrocarbons, and Demetris Papadimoulis, SYRIZA MEP, one of the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament.
At 10:45-11:00am, a press conference will be given by the General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou and the Group’s Vice President, PCP MEP João Pimenta Lopez.
The keynote speaker of the second session, which will focus on the Palestinian issue, will be the Palestinian Ambassador to Cyprus, Abdallah Attari. The Belgian Worker’s Party PTB/PVDA MEP Mark Botenga will also speak.
As part of its presence here, the Group will attend a bi-communal meeting organised by the AKEL Larnaca and Famagusta District Committees.
