Citizens want actions– they’re fed up with words!
Statement by the Head of the Health Affairs Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL Dr. Chrysanthos Georgiou on the latest negative incidents and developments in the field of Health
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 2nd December 2020, Nicosia
The latest developments in the field of health, whether it is the increase in the number of COVID cases recorded in the Athalassa Mental Health Hospital or the unprecedented abstention from the treatment of dialysis patients, only provoke sadness. In addition to people’s feelings of outrage and anger, there are specific political and administrative responsibilities. It’s high time those responsible take them on.
Our concern is growing, because apart from the obvious inability to manage crises in Health and despite the warnings issued by health professionals that the Athalassa hospital is understaffed, without proper building infrastructures, without know-how and experience in treating COVID-19, where too many and suffering severely mentally ill patients are being treated, the government has once again remained short of actions.
The same seems to be the case at the Famagusta Hospital, where despite the promises and pledges made, we are now being told that the procedures are now to blame. Citizens’ tolerance has reached its limits. People’s lives are in danger and we cannot and do not have the right to be satisfied with petty excuses. Citizens want actions not empty talk. They are fed up with words!
