Announcement on the Access of the Republic of Cyprus to Three American Military Programs

The announcement by the outgoing President of the United States of America on the Access of the Republic of Cyprus to Three American Military Programs reminds us that the imposition of an arms embargo by the USA on the Republic of Cyprus was and is an outrageous reverse of logic. The USA imposed an embargo on Cyprus, the victim of the 1974 invasion, while continuing and has been continuing for decades to arm the perpetrator of the invasion, the occupying power, namely Turkey.

AKEL expects to be informed within what framework and under what conditions did the USA proceed with this decision, given the support of the Christodoulides government to the infamous Rubio-Mendez law. A law which serves the geostrategic interests of the USA in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, demanding that the Republic of Cyprus destroy its relations with important states, such as Russia and China.
