Anastasiades/DISY stay in power cannot offer any hope of protecting public wealth and society
Statement by Charis Polycarpou, Head of the Economic Research Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 22nd September 2017, Nicosia
The government’s insistence on privatizations is harming the taxpayer and society as a whole.
Just for the privatization of the semi-governmental organization of the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) alone, the Government will spend more than €3.4 million on studies, while the total costs of the Privatization Unit, including salaries, exceed €4 million. These are the results of the Government’s dogmatic obsession with privatizations.
It is the same Government that invokes the need for austerity and reflection on public spending.
It is the same Government that had no problem whatsoever to cut social benefits and development projects.
However, when it comes to selling off public wealth and property, the Government thoughtlessly and generously hands out money to pay for studies and consultants.
People are well aware of the DISY – Anastasiades government’s contradictions. Their stay in power cannot offer any hope of protecting public wealth/property and society.
