Anastasiades bears grave responsibilities for the negative outcome at Crans Montana

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKLE C.C. Press Office, 21st September 2017, Nicosia

The DISY leadership is urging everyone today to talk about the substance of the Cyprus problem.

AKEL is dealing precisely with the substance of the Cyprus problem. That’s the reason why AKEL is criticizing Mr. Anastasiades for what he did – or better still, for what he didn’t do – at Crans Montana.

At the critical dinner of the Conference in Switzerland, the UN Secretary-General submitted a document on the implementation of the solution with the abolition of the guarantees and rights of intervention. Mr. Anastasiades didn’t insist on its discussion, because – as he said – there was tension.

With his regressions and erroneous handlings, Mr. Anastasiades did not take advantage of the UN Secretary-General’s document for the abolition of guarantees and rights of intervention and as a result allowed Turkey to leave Switzerland relieved of any responsibility.

Mr. Anastasiades bears grave responsibilities for this negative outcome.
