In the context of the campaign launched and underway by AKEL on housing policy, a delegation of the Party met with a delegation of the Board of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ).
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the housing issue which a large section of the population currently faces and a broad consensus was reached on ways to tackle the problem.
The AKEL delegation presented its proposals and suggestions for addressing the problem. In particular, the need to formulate a comprehensive housing policy to facilitate access to affordable housing for the vulnerable groups of the population, students, young couples and refugees was pointed out.
The ETEK delegation headed by the President of the Chamber, Konstantinos Konstantis, presented a scientifically based study on housing. Particular reference was made to the need for the creation of a Single Housing Agency and the need to use specific urban planning and financial tools to mitigate the problem.
For AKEL, dignified housing is a universal right, which must be guaranteed through a coherent and socially oriented housing policy.
The AKEL delegation included AKEL Political Bureau member Neoklis Sylikiotis, AKEL Head of Social Policy Evanthia Savva, member of the Central Committee Lambros Lambrou and Takis Petterides.
