AKEL’s Easter Message

On the occasion of the Easter celebrations, AKEL addresses to the Cypriot people its wishes for happiness, health and prosperity.

On these festive days, we convey our warm wishes to every family in Cyprus. Our thoughts go particularly with the poor, the thousands of unemployed, with those experiencing job insecurity and suffering from the negative consequences on their rights and salaries. Our thoughts are also with the young people who are worried about their future and prospects, and more generally with all those who are going through difficult times. AKEL will continue to struggle to put an end to the neo-liberal policies that are widening inequality and increasing the danger of poverty. It will continue to struggle to strengthen the welfare state and social cohesion.

The Easter celebrations for yet another year find our homeland still occupied and divided. Forty-four years onwards, our homeland is facing the real danger of partition. For the partition of our country not to be finalized, substantive negotiations need to be resumed for the solution of the Cyprus problem with the wish that this time, they will lead to a solution that will liberate and reunite our homeland and people.
