AKEL will continue to defend the character and social role of public hospitals which are a precious asset to society

AKEL on the integration of the state health services (OKYPY) in the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB)

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 26th October 2020, Nicosia

We are to say the least surprised by the line of the Board of state health services (OKYPY) to join the ranks of the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB)

It is obvious that the priorities of the Board of OKYPY continue to be out of place. At the same tine as Public Hospitals, under the responsibility of OKYPY and the Ministry of Health, are struggling for their very survival and the pandemic is testing hospitals and working people, instead of focusing their attention on these issues, the Board of OKYPY is focusing on other issues. This development, as expected, has caused further upheaval among health professionals and workers, but it has also heightened their concerns and the prevailing atmosphere surrounding the possible sale of public hospitals.

We call on the Board of OKYPY to correctly prioritize its priorities, to at long last provide solutions to the problems of hospitals, to solve the problems between the administrations of hospitals and the central administration, to stop provoking working people and start acting in a way that will convince the people and society that it is indeed working solely for the upgrading of the Public Health system, removing any possibility of curbing the services that are provided and/or of any form of privatization of hospitals.

AKEL will continue to defend the character and social role of public hospitals which are a precious asset to society.
