AKEL will continue to be serious and responsible in exercising its policy
Statement by Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 1st June 2016, Nicosia
The elections are over but the Democratic Party (DIKO) continues to act with the rhetoric of pre-election expediencies.
AKEL does not participate in the handling of the Cyprus problem. The Cyprus problem is handled by the President of the Republic who was elected with the support of the Democratic Party leadership.
AKEL does not take part in any secret diplomacy, but responds positively to requests for meetings which give it the opportunity to put forth its own positions and views. This is what was also done at the meeting with Mr. Espen Barth Eide, which was not made public at the request of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus himself
AKEL does not accept a return of the Annan Plan, which is frequently resuscitated through statements issued by DIKO leading officials.
AKEL will continue to be serious and responsible in exercising its policy, regardless of the uncalled for and unjustified attacks it is facing.
