AKEL wants the resumption of talks

Statements by AKEL MP Aristos Damianou to “Astra” radio station

12 March 2018 “Dialogos”

AKEL wants to see the ice broken between the two leaders and that they return to the negotiating table.

Speaking to “Astra” radio station, AKEL MP Aristos Damianou expressed the wish that the resumption of the talks is decided, as well as the convening of an international conference aiming at the solution of the Cyprus problem.

However, AKEL MP A. Damianou wondered what President Anastasiades is doing all this time to breach the deadlock. He criticized Mr. Anastasiades for not saying a word about the framework put forth by the UN Secretary-General A. Guterres and for not learning from its mistakes.

Furthermore, Aristos Damianou also stated that President Anastasiades is once again flirting with the policy of rejectionism in order to placate certain circles and forces on the domestic front. He also added that the efforts (to resume the negotiations) aren’t helped by the whole atmosphere with the unacceptable statements made by the Turkish Cypriot side and Ankara.

In conclusion, the AKEL MP said that certain circles and forces are flirting with the idea of partition, and it is ridiculous for anyone to believe think that (in such an eventuality) Cyprus will find peace, given that in the event of partition we will have borders with Turkey.
