AKEL visit to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics

A delegation of AKEL, headed by the General Secretary of the C.C. of the Party Stefanos Stefanou, visited the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics today. The delegation also included the AKEL MPs on the Parliamentary Health Affairs Committee Nikos Kettiros, Marina Nicolaou and Christos Christofias, as well as the Responsible for the Rapprochement Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL Elias Demetriou. The AKEL delegation met the Board of the Institute of Neurology and Genetics, headed by its Executive Director General Leonidas Filaktou.

During the visit, a presentation was given on the multidimensional role and work of the Institute in the field of medicine and research, university education and the prospect of its expansion and the gradual further integration of its services into the National Heath Scheme. Issues that were noted included the bi-communal nature of the Institute and its contribution towards confronting the pandemic. A tour of various departments of the Institute was also conducted.

On AKEL’s part, the importance the Party attaches to the work of the Institute was expressed, as well as the commitment that AKEL will continue to monitor the relevant issues with a view to providing support to the Institute to address all the challenges it faces, as well as to the prospect of expanding its services in the near future.
