AKEL VISIT TO ENCLAVED PEOPLE IN OCCUPIED AREAS

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 6th December 2013, Nicosia

A delegation of AKEL headed by Andros Kyprianou, General Secretary of AKEL, last Tuesday visited the enclaved people and schools of Karpasia in the occupied areas.

The General Secretary of AKEL spoke to meetings of the enclaved people in the village of Ayia Triada and Rizokarpaso, stressing that AKEL will remain unwaveringly devoted to the efforts to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem, so that the sacrifices of the people who chose to remain rooted in the land of their birth will be vindicated.

The enclaved people thanked AKEL for the long-standing support it renders to the enclaved people of the occupied areas, underlining that the most pressing problem they face is “the solution of the Cyprus problem and the finding of a just status for the Karpasia peninsula that will vindicate our labour and sacrifices”, as the representative of the enclaved people of Ayia Triada Ioannnis Ioannikios characteristically stated in his address.

The enclaved people expressed their satisfaction towards the government of Demetris Christofias since in the short space of time since it had assumed office managed to solve two of their most serious problems, namely the problem of the repair of their homes and the granting of a full benefit especially for enclaved pensioners.

At the same time, AKEL undertook to promote the problems facing enclaved people today before the relevant services of the state and to have the issues discussed in the House of Representatives.

On the occasion of Christmas and the New Year, AKEL offered symbolic presents to the envclaved people, but also to the children of the two schools of Rizokarpaso, as well as various table games for the needs of the hall for healthy recreational activities that will be created for the needs of the schools.

The boards of both schools expressed their satisfaction about AKEL’s interest, but also about the fact that AKEL always responds immediately to the various needs the schools have.
