AKEL: The President discussed a two-state solution with foreign diplomats

AKEL’s sources are unfortunately numerous and include public statements made by Cypriot politicians and the government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou himself that the President discussed a two-state solution with foreign diplomats, the Parliamentary Representative of AKEL Yiorgos Loukaides said replying to DISY MP Efthimios Diplaros. He also recalled the appeal issued by former DISY Minister of Interior Socrates Hasikos’ to President Anastasiades at a DISY conference, where he said that the President of the Republic should clarify that he is not discussing a two-state solution. An appeal, he said, which was also backed by DISY President Averof Neophytou.
Concerning the UN Secretary-General envoy’s contacts, Y.Loukaides expressed the hope that there will be a result. At the same time, he stated that AKEL is now less optimistic than in the recent past.
He noted that AKEL doesn’t know what the UN are seeking, but also both sides when talking about terms of reference. He also remarked that some DISY leading officials are portraying Mrs. Lute’s contacts as proximity talks and as being a continuation of the Crans Montana procedure, something Yiorgos Loukaides underlined doesn’t correspond to reality.
- Loukaides noted that Mrs. Lute’s initial schedule is being reversed and he expressed the hope that a delaying tactics policy will not be followed by the sides.
