AKEL: Solidarity with the French working people’s struggle! AKEL at the 37th Congress of the French Communist Party PCF
AKEL C.C. Press Office,
31st May 2016, Nicosia
AKEL expresses its unreserved solidarity with the thousands of working people, students and school pupils in France who with their mass strike mobilizations are demonstrating their resistance against the further deregulation of labour relations being promoted by the country’s government.
The striking French workers and youth are resisting the neoliberal policies which are being imposed in Europe and leading to rising poverty and misery. As a result of these policies the gap between the rich and the poor is widening. The objective of the popular mobilizations is to prevent the approval of the legislations which are undermining and violating collective agreements and therefore wages, working hours and other worker’s gains and rights to the benefit of big businesses and to the detriment of working people’s gains and rights which were won through struggles and sacrifices over many years.
At the same time as the mass popular ongoing mobilizations are taking place, the 37th Congress of the French Communist Party (PCF) will be held in Paris on 2-5th June. The French Communist Party is at the forefront of the organized resistance and reaction against the government policies. AKEL will be represented at the Congress by Vera Polycarpou, Head of the International Relations Bureau of the C.C. of the Party, who will also participate in the “International Meeting for Peace and Progress”, which is also being organized by the French Communist Party on 1st June.
