AKEL participates in solidarity mission to Palestine and Israel

A delegation with the participation of representatives of the Workers’ Party of Belgium PTB/PVDA, the German Communist Party DKP, the Communist Party of Greece KKE, the Portuguese Communist Party PCP and AKEL Cyprus, visited occupied Palestine and Israel between 10th and 14th October. This mission was part of the solidarity actions of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties with the Palestinian people and peace-loving forces in Israel who are fighting to end the Israeli occupation and the discriminations against the Arab minority in Israel.

The visit took place at a time of escalating tension in both the occupied territories and in Israel itself after the Israeli government’s continuous provocations in places of worship of the Palestinians, the violent attacks by the settlers against Palestinians and their properties, as well as continuing for 48 years now occupation.

The mission visited Ramallah, Jerusalem, Nazareth and Tel-Aviv where it had meetings with the Palestinian Prime Minister, Palestinian parties and organizations, the Parliamentary Group of the Common List in the Israeli parliament, the Communist Party of Israel and the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality HADASH, peace movements, women and youth.

The demand of all these forces is the immediate lifting of the Israeli occupation that is accumulating endless suffering on the Palestinian people, but also on the Israeli people, especially the Arab minority. The finding of the participants participating in the mission was the need to intensify international solidarity to end the occupation.
