AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4th January 2017, Nicosia

pafos2017As of 1st January the city of Paphos is the European Capital of Culture for 2017. AKEL expresses its full support to all those involved, professionals and volunteers, in the organization of this important cultural event not only for Paphos, but for Cyprus in general.

From the preparation made so far, but also the program that has been drawn up, we conclude that this is indeed an “Open Workshop of Culture”, as the organizers of “Paphos 2017″ have declared. A “hub” of creativity, production of culture, open to space and time. Above all however it is an open “workshop” open to the people, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, migrants and visitors. That is, all that is included in the key message of the organizers “Connecting Continents-Bridging Cultures”. We express our congratulations for the work that has done. Together with our congratulations, AKEL expresses its wishes for a successful organization and conclusion of “Paphos 2017”.

The choice of Paphos as the Cultural Capital of Europe is a great opportunity to create those institutions and infrastructures so that the residents of Paphos, especially the youth, utilize this great opportunity for a radically different cultural development; a cultural development that improves people’s quality of life and that will foster and cultivate values and ideals, contributing to peace, progress, prosperity, joy and happiness of the people.
