AKEL meets SYRIZA in Athens

Statement by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A.Kyprianou after his meeting with SYRIZA President A.Tsipras

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 24th October 2019, Nicosia

We had a very productive discussion with the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras, during which we exchanged views on the current phase of the Cyprus problem, as well as on the steps that must be taken to put an end to Turkey’s provocative actions and aggression. I believe there is a common concern about the current situation in Cyprus, which of course stems from Turkey’s provocative actions and aggression that have escalated to an extremely dangerous degree. This of course is also the result of the existing prolonged deadlock on the Cyprus problem. It is our common belief that what will address all the problems that have been provoked right now is the effective resumption of negotiations on the Cyprus problem, with naturally the simultaneous termination of Turkey’s provocative actions in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in the fenced-off city of Famagusta.

We exchanged views, as I have already said, and have agreed to continue this communication, exchange of information, views, thoughts and reflections, so that we can contribute towards addressing the problems that currently exist on the Cyprus problem.
