10 May 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, had a meeting today with a delegation from the New Cyprus Association.
Critical and important issues facing the country and our people today were discussed in a very positive and productive atmosphere. The common position and perception was expressed that the current situation, and particularly the prolonged stalemate on the Cyprus problem, is not an option. So long as the partitionist fait accompli are being consolidated with Turkey remaining beyond criticism, so is the assumption of substantive initiatives imperative to break the current deadlock.
Stefanos Stefanou reiterated the steadfast and unwavering commitment of AKEL to the resumption of the negotiations on the agreed basis, with the safeguarding of the Guterres Framework and the convergences that have been recorded, as well as their continuation from the point where they had remained at Crans-Montana.
On behalf of AKEL, the meeting was attended by Head of the Cyprus Problem Bureau Toumazos Tsielepis and the member of the Cyprus Problem Bureau of AKEL Stavri Kalopsidiotou.
