AKEL meeting with the Housing Finance Corporation (HFC)

A meeting between an AKEL delegation headed by the General Secretary of the Party Stefanos Stefanou and the Housing Finance Corporation (HFC) took place on Tuesday 9 May, within the framework of AKEL’s campaign on housing under the slogan “Housing for All”.

During the meeting with the Corporation’s Board, the General Secretary of AKEL underlined the role that the Corporation is called upon to play in the efforts to fund middle and low-income strata. Furthermore, he pointed out the Government’s obligation to protect the Corporation’s character and philosophy, making it a key pillar in the implementation of the State’s social policy for the provision of affordable housing for all people.

An exchange of views on ways also took place on the question of adapting the Corporation to the new conditions regarding its supervisory role, so that these new conditions do not create excessive obligations that would undermine the Corporation’s role and functioning. At the same time, the need to adapt both the operational framework, as well as the Corporation’s staffing and organisation was stressed, so that through speedy and direct procedures it can assist in the efforts to ensure affordable funding for acquiring housing.

During the discussion, AKEL’s longstanding support for the efforts being made by the Corporation was reaffirmed, as well as its intention to submit proposals and suggestions to the Government, within the context of strengthening the HFC’s social role.
