AKEL meeting with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ)

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, head of a Party delegation, had a meeting today with a delegation from the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ).

The subject of the meeting was the presentation by the ETEK of the Chamber’s activities during the past three years.

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL expressed the Party’s long-standing position that the ETEK is the institutionalised Technical Advisor to the State and that the State has the obligation to take into account Chamber’s positions and positions on issues concerning it.

Issues were discussed during the meeting related to the licensing and scrutiny of development with emphasis on the need to simplify procedures, the huge housing problem our country’s young generation face for which there was a common understanding on the need to create a single housing body, the problems in the implementation of large development projects and the concern about the huge energy security danger our country faces.

Finally, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL expressed the conviction that the all-round and excellent cooperation between the state and ETEK is for the benefit of citizens and Cyprus’ economy. S.Stefanou congratulated the Chamber for its rich and varied activity and expressed the wish that this would continue with the new ETEK Steering Committee.
