AKEL meeting with EBEA- TEBEA

21 February 2024, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

A meeting was held today between a delegation of AKEL, headed by the Party’s General Secretary, Stefanos Stefanou, and a delegation of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA) – Famagusta Tourist Commercial Industrial Association (TEBEA).

The meeting discussed issues of concern to the Chamber and the tourism industry, particularly the absence of a local plan for Paralimnii-Ayia Napa-Derynia, the issue of seasonality and wider development policy issues.

On its part, the Famagusta Tourist Commercial Industrial Association also raised the issue of the need for the development of university education in the free Famagusta region area and the issue of the serious understaffing of government services operating in the free Famagusta region and the problems arising in relation to the ‘green line’ regulation.

AKEL outlined its positions and initiatives on all issues concerning the region’s development.

A common concern and conclusion remains the fact that the city of Famagusta remains under occupation and is, apart from anything else, an obstacle to the development of the Famagusta region.

The AKEL delegation also included the AKEL Famagusta District Secretary Chrysanthos Zannettos, and AKEL Famagusta MPs Yiannakis Gavriel and Giorgos Koukoumas.
