AKEL insists on the key amendments on foreclosure bill
Statement of Andros Kyprianou, General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL
AKEL C.C Press Office, 3rd September 2014, Nicosia
The Government has unilaterally negotiated and agreed with the Troika the Bill for foreclosures, provocatively ignoring the political parties throughout this process. Acting in this way, it restricted its ability to express views and opinions on this issue, whilst at the same time it attempted to impose blackmailing dilemmas before them.
I would like to clarify after the positions expressed by the Troika on the proposals of the political parties that AKEL is guided in its actions by the need to protect the people, the majority of society, which without having any responsibility for the economic crisis is already threatened by the impoverishment and mass unemployment. As if that were not enough, now the danger of mass foreclosures of primary residencies is looming.
AKEL insists on the key amendments it has tabled, regardless of the positions of the Troika. This is the reason why it will seek, in consultation with those political parties who wish to, to submit an overall comprehensive framework of amendments in order to create a powerful framework for the protection of people and the economy.
