AKEL initiative tabling an issue for urgent debate in the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee

Statement by AKEL MP Aristos Damianou in the House of Representatives.

15 September 2022

As the Parliamentary Group AKEL-Left-New Forces, we are sending today, to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, a proposal for the registration of a subject for urgent debate, entitled: “Cyprus’ involvement in the production and distribution of software that may be used for illegal surveillance”.

The matter is deemed necessary to be raised for discussion in the context of parliamentary scrutiny, because in the ongoing debate in the European Parliament and Greek Parliament, Cyprus is implicated in the issue of wiretapping/eavesdropping/surveillance.
