AKEL in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people

On the occasion of today’s Land Day anniversary, AKEL expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian people. On 30 March, Palestinians commemorate “Land Day”, in memory of those who lost their lives in 1976 in the mass strikes and popular demonstrations that took place in the 1948 territories to remain on their land against the illegal confiscation of their land by the Israeli authorities. We also pay tribute and honor the struggles being against the illegal settlements, the evictions from the neighborhoods of East Jerusalem, the demolitions of houses and the destruction of Bedouin settlements. Added to this are the ongoing annexation, expansionism and colonisation policies Israel is pursuing, which are in violation of international law and the resolutions of the United Nations.
The region of the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean has been in turmoil for decades and it is the peoples who are paying the price. The key to ending the conflicts, for peace and stability in the Middle East is the termination of the Israeli occupation and the implementation of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination through the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
