AKEL in solidarity with the French Communist Party regarding Charlie Habdo tragedy

The Central Committee of AKEL sent today a solidarity message to the French Communist Party in regards to yesterday’s bloody attack against working people at the periodical “Charlie Hebdo”. The main part of the message follows below:

 

“The Central Committee of AKEL expresses its deep condolences to your Party, its members, the French people and the relatives and comrades of the assassinated cartoonists and other working people of the newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” in regards to yesterday’s deadly attack at the headquarters of the newspaper.

The tragic event consists a black page for the French communists since the affiliation of the majority of the cartoonists with the struggle and activities of your Party and the “Fête de l’Humanité”, is well known. Furthermore, the attack will be recorded as one of the darkest pages regarding the principles of freedom of expression and democracy.

As AKEL we support the call of your Party for unity of the people and organized groups within the context of the struggle for Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and against barbarity, hatred, stigmatization and racism.”
