AKEL has tabled for discussion the issue regarding the government handlings on the IMO

In a letter the AKEL MPs who are members of the Parliamentary Foreign and European Affairs Committee, requested that the issue “Briefing on the government’s handling of the possible submission of a Cypriot candidacy for the position of the new Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)” be registered for ex officio examination by the Committee.

The briefing of the relevant Parliamentary Committee is deemed necessary in view of the information that has come to light, according to which the Government has not acted in the direction of submitting a Cypriot candidacy for the post in question.

AKEL requests that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Shipping, the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, the President of the European Shipowners’ Association and the former Deputy Minister of Shipping be invited to the Committee to discuss the matter.
