AKEL General Secretary contacts in Berlin

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou is on a three-day visit to Berlin for meetings, aiming to inform parties about the course of the negotiations on the Cyprus problem. In his visit yesterday to the German Bundestag, the General Secretary of AKEL participated in the meeting of the European Affairs Working Group of the Parliamentary Group of the Left party Die Linke
The Group, headed by Die Linke MP Andrej Hunko, was briefed by the General Secretary of AKEL on the Cyprus problem, the last parliamentary elections and about upcoming municipal elections. In the briefing on the Cyprus problem, Andros Kyprianou besides referring to the historical background stood mainly on the latest developments. On their part, the members of the Die Linke working group focused on economic issues, informing the General Secretary of AKEL that they are calling for an open debate on the common currency, namely the Euro.
The General Secretary of AKEL subsequently met with the Parliamentary Representative for International Affairs of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Niels Anne. At their meeting which lasted for 40 minutes, Andros Kyprianou outlined the AKEL’s positions on the Cyprus problem and analyzed the latest developments. Mr. Anne seemed quite informed and was particularly interested in the latest developments surrounding the Cyprus problem. He expressed the view that the EU must support financially a possible agreement for a solution. Finally, he expressed his party’s support towards the procedure of talks on the Cyprus problem.
Today the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL will meet, among others, with the leaders of the Parliamentary Group of Die Linke Sahra Wagenknecht and Dietmar Bartsch, as well as with the President of the Green Party Cem Özdemir.
