AKEL event in honor of the cast of the film “The Milk of Peace”

  • A true story of genuine friendship between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots

The AKEL party organisation in the Municipality of Geroskipou held an event in which Andreas Efstathiou, Birgül Yildirim, Mehmet Hulusi Kilich and Cemal Yildirim, director of the film “The Milk of Peace” or “My Dad the Milkman” (Süt Babam) were honored. A true story of humanity and genuine friendship that developed between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in the tragic events of 1974in their brave efforts to keep a newborn girl alive.

The event took place on Monday 5 September at the events hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre, with AKEL Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loukaides as the main speaker.

The event was addressed by the Secretary of the AKEL Geroskipou Borough Committee Marios Georgiou. An extract from the film was shown and a cultural programme was presented with songs by Petros Georgiades, Panagiotis Nikolaou and Pavlos Grigoriou. AKEL Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loukaides presented plaques of honor to the real heroes of this beautiful story of humanity and solidarity, Andreas Efstathiou, Birgül Yildirim and Mehmet Hulusi Kilich, and to the director of the film, Cemal Yildirim.

On behalf of the honorees, Andreas Efstathiou and Birgül Yildirim thanked AKEL and those present in the packed hall and sent their own messages about the necessity of reunification of our homeland and people and peaceful coexistence, far from any destructive and harmful nationalist and chauvinist crimes. They also stressed the importance of solidarity and social justice, especially in today’s difficult socio-economic conditions when many of our fellow citizens are being driven into poverty and more and more of our fellow citizens are waging a real struggle for survival.
