AKEL denounces ZAMAN closure and AKP Erdogan government´s growing authoritarianism

AKEL denounces yesterday’s move by the government of Turkey to proceed with the closure of the “Zaman” daily newspaper. This unacceptable act is follows that of a chain of deeds and actions to also silence the differing views expressed by the opposition mass media. This is yet another example of the growing authoritarianism that is characteristic of the AKP Erdogan government.
We call on all International and Regional organizations that have a role and responsibility to protect human rights and democracy to act immediately and decisively to end this unacceptable state of affairs prevailing in Turkey.
