AKEL denounces the Turkish Vice-President’s presence and statements in the occupied territories

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 20 July 2018, Nicosia

AKEL denounces the Turkish Vice-President’s presence and statements in the occupied territories

AKEL denounces the illegal visit of the Turkish Vice-President Fouat Oktay to the occupied areas in Cyprus to participate in the occupation regime’s celebrations for the anniversary of the brutal Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

AKEL also denounces the statements of the Turkish Vice-President, where once again an attempt is being made to portray Turkey’s illegal invasion as a “peacekeeping operation”. Turkey with its invasion and occupation in Cyprus is violating the UN Charter and International Law.

Instead of celebrating its illegal acts, Turkey should cooperate to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem that will end the occupation, liberate and reunite our country and people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

AKEL expresses its regret over Greek Defence Minister’s statements

We regret the statements made by the Greek Minister of Defence Mr. Kamenos that “Cyprus is an integral part of the national body”. Such statements convey wrong messages internationally. The independence and entity of the Republic of Cyprus, which Turkey challenges daily, must be protected as our crown jewel.
