AKEL denounces yesterday’s attack by fascist elements against citizens who were participating in an event about the issue of Federation at the Technical University (TEPAK). This is yet another incident that concerns an attack by fascists using the Cyprus problem as a pretext, a fact which must be a concern for every prudent citizen of this country. Fascism must not be allowed to raise his head. Towards that end, AKEL calls on society to react.

At the same time, we urge the government to at long last react and stop acting and behaving apathetically in the face of these extremely worrying developments. Experience has many times shown that any hesitation and delay in combating fascism, nationalism and the extreme right, inevitably leads to great problems and tragedies. Our people are still suffering from the devastating activities of nationalism and fascism.

As a first and immediate response to the fascist attack at TEPAK, AKEL is organizing a protest meeting against the ultra-right and fascism, tonight at 19:30 p.m. in Diikitiriou square in Limassol and calls on every democratically-minded citizen to participate.
