AKEL denounces the endless blood being shed in Gaza
26 August 2025, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
AKEL condemns in the strongest possible terms the Israeli army’s attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in which 20 Palestinians were killed, including five journalists. The Israeli army has once again targeted a civilian building and killed civilians, including frontline medical and media personnel, in yet another violation of international and humanitarian law.
As the bloody massacre and ongoing genocide being committed by Israel is continuing, Netanyahu’s statement about a “tragic accident” and a “thorough investigation” is nothing but hypocrisy. Under his leadership, a campaign of extermination and genocide is unfolding, with mothers, children, civilians, and even patients and staff in hospitals among the victims.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) points out that more than 190 journalists have been killed in 22 months of war, with the overwhelming majority being Palestinian victims of Israeli attacks, while the World Health Organization (WHO) has repeatedly warned of the destruction of healthcare and hospitals underway in Gaza.
AKEL joins its voice with all democratic humanity, all states and governments that are demanding an immediate end to the bloodshed in Gaza and the implementation of the resolutions and decisions adopted concerning Palestine. The Christodoulides government is called upon to align itself with this demand, instead of continuing to remain complicit and silent in the face of the crime being committed against humanity.
