AKEL condemns the mass massacres in Syria by jihadist forces
AKEL condemns the mass massacres and terrorisation of civilians perpetrated by jihadist forces in Syria, which target ethnic and religious minorities in the country – mainly Christians and Alawites – but also the forces defending the need for a secular democratic state. The jihadist forces that have seized power in the country must be prevented from continuing their murderous campaign, which is also causing new waves of refugees from the long-suffering Syrian people.
It is shameful that the EU – via the European External Action Service – is taking a one-sided stance in condemning the attacks on the forces of the ‘transitional government’, but is silent on the religious and ethnic minorities that are being massacred on a massive scale.
