AKEL C.C. Spokesperson blunt reply to the Archbishop’s provocative statements against AKEL

AKEL’s Press Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas made statements to the press after the AKEL Pancyprian Conference on the February Presidential Elections.

Inter alia, G. Koukoumas was asked and replied to questions about the interview Archbishop Chrysostomos II gave to the newspaper “Politis (Note: in which he accused AKEL on ‘being British agents’).

The AKEL Press Spokesperson to begin with noted that, “As far as the Archbishop’s interview is concerned, its whole level speaks for itself”.

Regarding the insults and provocativeness of the Primate of the Cyprus Church against AKEL, the AKEL Spokesperson responded bluntly, literally stating the following:

“As far as the accusation against AKEL is concerned, such comments do not even warrant a response.”

In the relevant interview, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, he didnt hide his particular sympathy towards (presidential candidate and former Anastasiades Foreign Minister) Nikos Christodoulides, comparing the support he receives with that enjoyed by Archbishop Makarios.

In relation to this reference, Giorgos Koukoumas again responded bluntly to Archbishop Chrysostomos saying, “If he respects Archbishop and President Makarios, he should not belittle him.”
